In some circumstances (such as a top level menu item), it's necessary to link to an exisiting, lower level menu item, but keep the URL structure the same. For this we select the 'Menu Item Alias' option.
To setup a Menu Item Alias, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the menu where the menu item alias will appear.
- Click on the item you want to edit, or setup a new menu item.
- Under 'Menu Item Type' click the Select button.
- Navigate to
System Links > Menu Item Alias. - Once selected, a 'Menu Item' field will appear below. Click on the Select button.
- Choose the menu item that this menu item will link to, e.g. for a top-level 'News' menu item, linking to a lower-level 'Latest News' menu item.
- Toggle on 'Use Redirect'
- Save the menu item, and your menu item will now link to the selected item.
